CODE OF CONDUCT

At Renee's House, we are committed to guiding, nurturing, and empowering young women in their spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental development. Many of our residents have experienced significant trauma, and it is crucial that we approach each interaction with care and respect. Below are some key guidelines that staff and volunteers must follow to create a safe, supportive environment for all.

Promote Safety, Wellbeing, & Growth (Spiritual, Emotional, Mental, & Physical)

Physical Contact:n Maintaining appropriate boundaries is essential for the safety and wellbeing of both our residents and staff. Many of our residents may have experienced abuse and are learning how to establish healthy boundaries in relationships. Always ask before initiating physical contact (e.g., hugs) and respect the resident’s response, whether it is a yes or no.

Be Trustworthy and Responsible

Responsibility: Staff must be aware of their responsibilities and act consistently and reliably. Trust is fundamental in relationships with youth, and this trust is built on honesty, keeping promises, and demonstrating consistency. By fostering trust, we improve outcomes for those we serve.

Act with Integrity

Commitments: Be honest and realistic about your role and commitments. Set clear expectations and avoid creating false ones. If you make plans, ensure that you follow through to the best of your ability. Small inconsistencies can erode trust and harm relationships with residents and staff.

Professionalism: Staff are expected to maintain integrity and adhere to the ethical guidelines of Renee’s House. Any behavior contrary to our mission, such as cursing, using tobacco or alcohol, or engaging in violence, is not acceptable.

Respecting the Resident’s Needs and Autonomy

Pregnancy Options: If a resident expresses interest in abortion or adoption, it is important to refer them to the director for appropriate guidance. We encourage every staff member to share their experiences, strengths, and hope but must also ensure that we are supporting the resident’s choices without imposing personal views. Our mission is to respect the choices of each resident while providing the resources necessary for informed decisions.

Avoid Conflicts of Interest

Professional Boundaries: Do not enter into personal relationships with residents that could interfere with your objectivity or the effectiveness of your role. Be aware of boundaries and the roles of other professionals (e.g., tutors, therapists, probation officers) already working with the residents. If a situation requires expertise beyond your role, direct the resident to the appropriate professional.

Conclusion: By following these principles, we can create an environment that supports the growth and healing of our young mothers. It is essential to remain grounded in our Christ-centered mission while ensuring that all staff and volunteers contribute to a safe and supportive space for our residents to thrive.
