Meet The Advisory Board

Pastor Steve Dixon
Spiritual Advisor
Pastor Steve Dixon served on the Compassion Ministries Board of Directors from 1995 to 2024 and is one of the original visionaries behind Compassion House.
For nearly three decades, he has championed the mission of offering pregnant and parenting teens a safe, supportive environment to prepare for their futures.
He has called the home “a lifeline for girls under the age of 18 who are pregnant and need a safe place to stay.”
Steve played a key role in launching the home, advocating for its growth, and securing community support. He now continues to serve on the Advisory Board.
Steve founded and pastored Christian Life Cathedral for 40 years and now leads Worldwide Evangelism.
He and his wife, Cozy, remain deeply invested in equipping the next generation and strengthening the ministry they helped build.

Inger Nelson
Mental Health Advisor
Inger Nelson is a Licensed Certified Social Worker with nearly three decades of experience supporting teens, young adults, and families through trauma, grief, and life transitions.
She has been involved with Compassion Ministries since its earliest days, serving over the years as a counselor, Executive Director, board member, and trusted advisor.
She has facilitated over 100 adoptions, developed therapeutic programming, and walked closely with birth mothers through the emotional journey of placement, grief, and healing. Her work has helped shape the ministry’s trauma-informed approach and its unwavering commitment to emotional and spiritual care.
Inger’s areas of expertise include trauma, anxiety, attachment, grief, and family systems.
She also serves as an elder at Christian Life Cathedral. Her deep faith and decades-long commitment continue to guide the heart of Compassion Ministries.

David Widger
Risk Management Advisor
David Widger serves as Risk Advisor on the Compassion Ministries Advisory Board, bringing over two decades of experience in insurance, liability, and risk management. He is the current Risk Manager for BNSF Logistics, where he oversees complex safety and liability operations across a national network.
David’s connection to the mission is deeply personal. He is the son of a teen mom and is married to Crystal, who was also a teen mother—giving birth to her first child at age 14, whom David later adopted.
Their shared journey has shaped a deep compassion for young families facing similar challenges.
David joined the Advisory Board in 2023 and plays a vital role in ensuring the ministry operates with safety, sustainability, and wisdom.
He and Crystal now have four children and remain committed to building hope-filled futures for others.
