Read Elizabeth's Story

"When I discovered I was going to be a mother at the age of 15, I was consumed with a whirlwind of emotions. I was terrified, anxious, ashamed, and lonely. I had dropped out of school and spent more than half of my pregnancy thinking I not only ruined my life, but I was about to ruin the life of this tiny human too!

I had a limited support system (my mom and grandmother); I was overwhelmed with the reality that I was about to be 100% responsible for this little life and doubting my abilities as a mother.

Fortunately, I was referred to Compassion House in the last month of my pregnancy, and my life changed dramatically. At first, I was apprehensive—it all seemed too good to be true. How could these people care about me, about teen moms? Why are they not judging me like the rest of the world?

Through my time at Compassion House, I have learned a lot about myself, being a parent, and the importance of my education.”

Because of your support, young women like Elizabeth are receiving the valuable guidance they need to thrive. Your generosity ensures that these young mothers and their children continue to get the care and support they deserve. Together, we can help more young women like Elizabeth build a brighter future for themselves and their families!

The Reality of Teen Parenthood

  • 3 in 10 teen American girls will get pregnant at least once before age 20.

  • Parenthood is the leading reason why teen girls drop out of school.

  • 25% of teen moms have a second child within 24 months of their first baby.

  • More than half of all mothers on welfare had their first child as a teenager.

  • In fact, two-thirds of underprivileged families began with a young, unmarried mother.

These statistics highlight the immense challenges faced by young mothers, many of whom are at risk of falling into generational cycles of poverty. Compassion House is committed to breaking these cycles by offering support, education, and a safe place for young mothers to heal, grow, and build a better future for themselves and their children.

Our
Story

Log Cabin.png

Compassion House, formerly known as New Beginnings Maternity Home, has been serving the Northwest Arkansas community since 1989.

Originally founded by Youth With a Mission (YWAM), the home transitioned to new leadership in 1995 when YWAM President Oren Paris invited Pastor Steve Dixon of Christian Life Cathedral to take over the operation.

With a vision to establish a Christ-centered ministry in Northwest Arkansas, Pastor Dixon agreed to lead the transformation, renaming the home Compassion House.

In 1999, the organization was officially incorporated under the guidance of its founding board members: Pastor Ernie Conduff (President), Pastor Steve Dixon, Cyndi Bradt, Mary O’Mara, and Mark Greenway.

Continuing its legacy of care and compassion, Renee’s House officially opened in 2024, further expanding the mission to serve women and families in need.

We work closely with each resident, providing personalized, intensive case management to create a tailored growth plan. These plans focus on individual goals related to education, initiative and accountability, life skills, employment, money management, support networks, substance abuse recovery, physical and emotional health, time management, housing stability, and legal issues.

Each resident will receive essential services, including counseling, housing, access to clothing, food, and personal hygiene items.

They will be paired with a labor coach and mentor, and provided with a program completion guide. This guide outlines the classes they will attend and sets specific goals based on their unique needs, covering areas like financial literacy, workforce development, parenting/relationships, and healthy living.
